Looking to be a part of something where I could engage with likeminded young professionals in beautiful Christchurch, I stumbled upon an email to join CYP.

Coming from finance background, few years ago, I moved into procurement to add more variety into my working life. I am active with sports esp. Cricket (in summers) and Badminton (in winters) and have been a part of Christchurch’s performing arts circle in the past. I look forward to see you
    coming at our next event.

I joined CYP in 2015 and have thoroughly enjoyed being an active member. CYP as an
organisation aims to bring young people together, people from all backgrounds and
occupations. Since joining, I have experienced this first-hand and have met many interesting people, formed business contacts and made close friends. Because of this I decided to join the committee to be part of the fantastic team trying to make a difference in young people’s lives in Canterbury.

Outside of CYP I have several years of business experience, primarily in construction,
hospitality, insurance and recruitment. I enjoy being part of creative business ventures,
playing sports, guitar, and socialising with people over a beer or coffee.

We’re a friendly bunch so make sure you join us at our next event and come say hello.

I joined CYP in 2018 when I moved over from North Queensland, Australia. It was (and continues to be) a great way to make connections, both business and social. I can trace back many friendships today to CYP.

During the week, I’m busy working as a lawyer in the commercial/ corporate team of an agricommerce focused law firm. On the weekends, I’m usually out of town exploring the beautiful NZ outdoors, whether that be hiking a mountain or riding my bike (a new found hobby!).

  • Danielle Jelley

    Works for: HOT Events

I love meeting new people and networking, and as a member of CYP, have been introduced me to lifelong friends. I’m excited to give back to this community, and have joined the CYP committee to help facilitate the growth of the organisation and welcome new members.

I’m passionate about the outdoors, and you’ll find me in the backcountry somewhere in the South Island in the weekends.

As an Event Manager, I look forward to contributing to the CYP committee and working with the team to plan epic and inclusive events in 2021.

I love Christchurch and CYP has been a great way to meet new likeminded people. I’m on the business committee because I want to help other young professionals develop in their careers by putting on great events.

Being born and bred in Christchurch, I have experienced the true resilience of Canterbury. Through every challenge that our city has faced, we have grown as a community to overcome any obstacle. CYP is a collective that helps create bonds between us working professionals and assist in the personal, social and professional development of our members. I am proud to be part of the team that helps facilitate that.

I currently operate Sim Digital, a business which provides services such as Web & Graphic Design, Photography & Videography. I hope that my skill set will help benefit the CYP team and our organisation.

  • Bethany Spurgeon

    Role: Social Committee

    Works for: Publica

I joined CYP mid 2020 to create new and wide connections outside of my industry. From the first day, I felt welcomed and enjoyed the community created at events. This year I’ve come on board to the social committee so that I can help bring the same experience to other new and current members. We have such a diverse group of young professionals in Christchurch – this is our opportunity to build closer ties.

During my weekdays, I work in a busy digital development agency, helping manage web and app builds for a range of clients. Having a background in textiles, I otherwise spend my spare timing upholstering, screen printing, and creating of all kinds!
