Being a part of the committee is being a part of the greater success of the CYP organisation. With a goal to engage, develop and inspire young professionals business and social connections for a better Canterbury. You will work within the committees to bring monthly social and business events to broaden our membership base and reach within Canterbury.
There is a time commitment involved so please factor that into your application, dependent on your role there is around 2-4 hours per week involved in working in the CYP committees. Time spent can vary from committee wide or sub-committee meetings, event organisation through to communications on socials, website and email. Full position descriptions can be viewed below.

Position Descriptions
President (1 Year Term)
Position Overview:
The President will lead the CYP Executive Committee and spearhead efforts to secure funding through Sponsorships and strategic partnerships. This unique position combines the visionary leadership required to shape the organization's future with the practical responsibilities of managing external relationships with Sponsors and the Public.
Key Responsibilities:
• Strategic Leadership and Board Management (of the Executive Committee)
• External Relations Management including media, Sponsors and other stakeholders
• Financial Oversight of the Organisation's accounts and transactions.
• Community Outreach to maintain and grow CYP's Sponsorship base.
As the President of CYP, you will have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the personal and professional growth of young individuals in our community while fostering a supportive and vibrant network. This role requires a dedicated and visionary leader who can steer the organization towards a bright future.
Note: Due to constitutional changes, this elected position will be for a 1 year term from 2024 - 2025 (with the next election for this role in late 2024).
Vice President (2 Years Term)
Position Overview:
The Vice President is responsible for organising a variety of events, from networking mixers to professional development workshops. They will work closely with the Marketing Director to ensure events are well advertised, and lead a team of Event Planners (Committee Members) to assist with the planning, booking and administration of events.
Key Responsibilities:
• Plan, organize, and execute a diverse range of events.
• Coordinate event logistics, including venue selection, catering, and equipment.
• Manage event budgets and expenses.
• Work with the Marketing Director to promote events through various marketing channels.
• Monitor event feedback and make improvements based on attendee experience.
As the Vice President of CYP, you will have the opportunity to lead a team of Event Planners to provide informative and engaging events for our members. This role requires an organised and passionate leader who can strategically plan and manage internal and external relationships.
Note: Due to constitutional changes, this elected position will be for a 2 year term from 2024 - 2026 (with the next election for this role in late 2025).
Secretary (2 Years Term)
Position Overview:
The Secretary will play a crucial role in maintaining accurate records, scheduling meetings, and facilitating official communication from the organisation. They will work closely with the Executive Committee to keep the organisation running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities:
• Maintain and organise records and documents.
• Schedule and coordinate Executive Committee Meetings.
• Record meeting minutes and distribute them as needed.
• Assist with internal and external communication.

Treasurer (2 Years Term)
Position Overview:
The Treasurer will oversee all financial matters for CYP, ensuring accurate record-keeping, budget management, and financial reporting to the board and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
• Manage the organisation's finances, including budgeting, accounting, and financial planning.
• Maintain financial records and prepare regular financial reports.
• Ensure compliance with financial regulations and legal requirements.
• Work closely with the President to manage sponsorship-related finances.
• Collaborate with the Vice President to manage event budgets and expenses.

Marketing Director (1 Year Term)
Position Overview:
The Marketing Director is responsible for developing and implementing marketing strategies that align with our organization's mission and goals. They will lead a team of Marketing Coordinators execute campaigns and manage CYP marketing platforms including the CYP website, email marketing and social media accounts.
Key Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with the Vice President to develop comprehensive marketing plans and campaigns for CYP events.
• Oversee digital and social media marketing, content creation, and email marketing.
• Manage advertising budgets and platforms.
• Create and distribute promotional materials and collateral.
• Analyse and report on the performance of marketing efforts.

Networking & Wellbeing Director (1 Year Term)
Position Overview:
The Networking and Wellbeing Director plays a pivotal role in creating a supportive and enriching community for our young professionals. This role combines the essential elements of building professional connections with the promotion of mental and physical health to ensure that our members thrive both personally and professionally.
Key Responsibilities:
• Act as a visitor host, greeting members and introducing new attendees to an existing member as they arrive at events.
• Be the point of contact for CYP members for any wellbeing concerns.
• Implement networking and wellbeing campaigns such as a monthly newsletter or mentorship program to provide deeper oppertunities for members to network outside of CYP events.

Committee Member (unelected - 1 year term or at the discretion of the Executive Committee)
This is an application to be considered for an unelected position on the Event Planning or Marketing Coordination sub-committees at the discretion of the newly elected Vice President and Marketing Director respectively. Applications must be submitted by Friday 17th November 2023 however will not be announced until Wednesday 13th December 2023.
Position Overview - Event Planner:
The Event Planner, within the sub-committee led by the Vice President, is responsible for conceiving, planning, and executing a variety of events and activities that provide networking, professional development, and social opportunities to CYP members. This role is essential to creating a vibrant and inclusive community for our members.
Position Overview - Marketing Coordinator:
The Marketing Coordinator, within the sub-committee under the Marketing Director, will support in executing marketing strategies and initiatives to promote CYP, engage members, and drive participation in events and activities. This role is crucial for amplifying the organization's message and connecting with the community effectively.
